About Devon
The Town of Devon was originally built to accommodate the oil boom of 1947, after the discovery of the Leduc-Woodbend Oil Field by Imperial Oil. Discovery Well #1, the most famous oil well in Alberta, is located 1 km south of the Town of Devon. The name "Devon" comes from the Devonian rock formation base in which oil is found.

Devon is a very unique community. It became labelled as "Canada’s Model Town", since it was the first municipality in Canada to receive approval from a Regional Planning Commission.

Our proximity to the beautiful North Saskatchewan River provides unsurpassed opportunities for outdoor recreation and tourism activities.

We are the only community in the Edmonton region that owns and operates our own water, sanitary sewer and natural gas distribution and treatment systems.
